Our Broad Street Museum will be open to the public again on November 18th between 2pm and 4pm.

We have some special items on display which have not been on show at previous open days.

All our welcome. Our guides will be happy to try and answer your questions and tell you more about membership of the Society and our lecture programme.

The Museum will be open to the public on Sunday October 21st between 2pm and 4pm.

There will be an optional introductory talk at 2:15.

You are welcome to look around our collections at your leisure and ask questions of our team of guides.

A selection of the Spalding Gentlemen’s Society’s collection of  William Stukeley drawings will be on display. These drawings were conserved in 2016 with the assistance of a Heritage Lottery Fund grant.

An exhibition featuring original drawings by
William Stukeley – Lincolnshire antiquarian and
Sir Isaac Newton’s biographer – who lived in
Grantham from 1726 to 1730 on the junction of
Castlegate and Avenue Road. Stukeley pioneered
the archaeological investigations of Stonehenge
and Avebury and founded the Grantham
Freemason’s Lodge.

Are You Interested in Local History?

The Spalding Gentlemen’s Society is an accredited museum and a registered charity. We have created a quiz to help raise funds for our current work and future conservation needs.

The quiz consists of 100 questions and the theme is ‘Spalding and South Holland’.

The entry fee is a minimum of £1, although other donations would be very much appreciated. There are three prizes: £20 for first place, £10 for second, and £5 for third. The closing date for entries is 30 September 2018.

You can enter in three ways:

-Send a large SAE plus your entry fee to: QUIZ, Spalding Gentlemen’s Society, Broad Street, Spalding, Lincs, PE11 1TB to receive a copy of the quiz by post.

-Download the quiz using this link – SGS Quiz – and pay when you submit your answer sheet.

-Copies of the quiz are also available at Ayscoughfee Hall and Bookmark in Spalding.

Heritage Open Day 150 150 Nick Casswell

Heritage Open Day

Our Open Day in September will be on Saturday 8th as part of the Lincolnshire Heritage Open Days programme.

Our theme is Meet the Ancestors – Share their World.

This will be a unique opportunity to view previously unseen images from an extensive collection of glass plates. These form part of a large museum collection with a strong local interest.

Entrance will be free. Donations very welcome.

We will be open from 10:00 to 16:00

Ayscoughfee 1940’s Weekend


Spalding Gentlemen’s Society will be present at this popular event held on Saturday 11th and Sunday 12th August.

There will be displays of memorabilia, period vehicles, re-enactors as well as dancing and a singer performing popular songs of the period.

The Annual VJ Day Remembrance Parade will take place from 2:30pm on the Sunday

There will be a Battle of Britain Memorial Flight flypast on both days weather permitting.

Festival of Archaeology 2018

This weekend members of the Society will be taking part in the Festival of Archaeology at Ayscoughfee Hall. Join us in a range of activities for all ages including artefact identification, crafts, dig pits for the young (and young at heart) to try their hand at excavation. We’ll also be leading historic walks around Spalding town centre.

The Festival is on 10.30 to 16.00 on Saturday July 28th and Sunday July 29th.

Entry is free, although crafts will be charged between 50p and £2.
