The Society’s ‘Original Collection’. Dustin Frazier Wood.

Dustin Frazier Wood is currently Head of Collections & Research at SGS and a Senior Lecturer in Cultural Heritage at the University of Roehampton. My research focuses on 18th century cultural history, especially the history of collections and antiquarianism.

The Society’s ‘Original Collection’, dating from 1710 to 1814, is the oldest intact museum collection in the country, and has recently been named a ‘Designated Collection of National Significance’ by Arts Council England. This lecture explores how the Original Collection came into being. It traces some of the people, animals and objects from around the world as they made their way to Spalding…and what happened to them once they got here!

Doors open at 7pm at Broad Street Methodist Church, Spalding. Lecture starts 7.30pm. Entry £5, full time students free.
