Families can get in the festive frame of mind by celebrating a Victorian Christmas event at Ayscoughfee Hall, in Spalding, on Sunday 7th December. Attendees can drop-in from between 12noon and 2.30pm.
During this event, children can have a go at making a range of seasonal crafts using recycled materials – including decorative paper chains, 3D Christmas cards, origami paper stars and book folding. Visitors also have the chance to create their very own super-scented pomander to take away.
“It’s a great opportunity to discover more about the origins of our Christmas traditions and how they’ve evolved over the years,” explains organiser Louisa Evans, from Spalding Gentlemen’s Society. “It’s a fantastic way to hear how our Victorian ancestors celebrated the festive season. We’ll end the session with some carol singing for everyone to enjoy before heading home.”
This event has been organised by Spalding Gentlemen’s Society, Britain’s oldest surviving provincial learned society and second oldest museum, in partnership with Ayscoughfee Hall Museum. It’s recommended for ages 6+. Parents and guardians are required to stay with their child for the duration of the event.
